Taking a walk in Santa Marina, Salina
Santa Marina is one of the main towns on Salina. It is on one of the slopes of Monte Fossa delle Felci, an ancient and extinct volcano covered with rich vegetation.
Santa Marina is the ideal destination for a romantic walk. It is a weaving of narrow streets lined with boutiques and shops selling handcrafts where to purchase a souvenir. We recommend visiting the small church of Santa Marina (patron saint of the island). Another walk we recommend begins in the area of “Serro dell’Acqua”. It is a beautiful trail amongst olive trees and fruit trees that reaches the “Grotte Saracene”. These are caves dug out of tufa rock with a particular morphological structure.
Touring the island on an Apecar with aperitivo in Pollara
Pollara is a small fishing village which has become famous because it was one of the sets of “Il Postino”, a film of Massimo Troisi’s.
The most folkloric and “green” way to tour the island is on an electric Apecar. Ask the staff at Mamma Santina’s to arrange your exclusive tour of the island on the electric Apecar. According to tradition the tour ends with a marvelous Aeolian aperitive in Pollara.
Land of Malvasia, visit to wine cellars
Among the countless treasures of the island of Salina a special mention is due to its capers and Malvasia.
These products are part of a rich food and wine tradition. You can taste these at the hotel aperitivi and learn more about Malvasia by visiting whe wine cellars where it is made. It will be a unique experience which will enrich a vacation on the “green” island of Salina.
Hiking on the volcanos
Vulcano and Stromboli are the two islands with the dominating presence of volcanos.
Reverence, beauty and energy in pure form are what you can experience hiking up the craters found on these two islands.
From the peaks you will enjoy the full view of the sea and sky with the other “sister” islands as a background.
Stromboli at night
Stromboli is the most northern island of the archipelago. It has enchanting energy because of its volcano otherwise known as “Iddu”.
When on the Aeolian islands you do not want to miss the unique and magical show this volcano provides. Get on a boat and admire the "la sciara del fuoco", or talus scree of fire at night. This flow of lava at night illuminates an uninhabited slope on Stromboli. The flow then disappears into the night sea and sky. Ask for information at the helpdesk at Mamma Santina’s for more information on how to arrange this experience.
